It all started with an email. From my desk in Cincinnati, Ohio, I read the invitation to learn more about a job opportunity a thousand miles away in Fort Myers, Florida. A few interviews and a few whirlwind-weeks later, I left Graham in Ohio to sell our home, boarded a plane to the Sunshine State, and moved myself and our two cats into temporary housing—ready to start my new writing job.
That's when the house hunting began. And when Graham and I saw this home, we fell in love—with the location, the setting, and all the potential. Situated on 1.25 acres in an established, secluded neighborhood just south of Fort Myers, the 3 bed/3 bath home has beautiful bones, but hasn't been updated since it was built in 1985. A lot of work, but we decided we were up to the challenge. Within a week, our offer on the property was accepted.
This before-and-after blog is where Graham and I will chronicle the transformation of this dated 1980s contemporary-style house into a stylish, comfortable retreat we're proud to call home. You'll see the sweat. The drywall dust. The shopping scores. The paint swatches. The contractor chaos. The down-and-dirty dishing on all that's driving us crazy and all that's making us realize that yes, it was all worth it.
